Steven Gash

Steven is Clough & Company's Practice Chairman and is primarily involved in Financial Services, Corporate Finance and Business Development.

Qualifying in 1974, Steven joined Clough & Company in 1977 and became a partner In 1979, concentrating mainly on corporate finance matters. In 1999, Steven was appointed Managing Partner, based at the Bradford office until 2004 when he took responsibility for relocating to the new premises at Cleckheaton. During his time as Managing Partner, Steven has also overseen the merger and integration of both Grahame Dale & Company and Graham Priestley & Company. In 2009 he took on his new role as Practice Chairman.

Any spare time that his two daughters and three grandsons don't command is spent indulging his passion for classic cars; he can often be found either improving his lap time on the track, or rallying around Europe in his MG.

Nigel Bullas

Nigel is Clough & Company’s Managing Partner and a member of the corporate finance faculty. He presides over Corporate Finance activities, Business Development and also acts as business advisor to a number of successful owner managed businesses.
 
Nigel qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1984 and joined Clough & Company as a Senior Manager in 1985, where he assisted Steven Gash on portfolio and corporate finance matters. In 1988, Nigel left the practice to work at Deloitte and Touche as a Corporate Finance Manager, before rejoining Clough & Company 18 months later as a Partner at the Keighley office. The next 10 years were spent in Corporate Finance and saw him take on the newly acquired Dewsbury office, before overseeing its merger with the new Cleckheaton premises in 2004.
 
Nigel has three children and in his spare time, such as it is, you will see him undoubtedly watching football, either his beloved Huddersfield Town or coaching his son and his junior football side.

Nigel Westman

Nigel operates as a General Practitioner advising professional partnerships and family businesses.  He has a wealth of experience in looking after both large and small clients who operate in a wide variety of businesses.  He also acts as a Business Advisor to many of his clients to help them achieve their aims and goals. Nigel has extensive knowledge of Revenue and Customs enquiries and helps clients to negotiate solutions to problems arising from enquires and inspection visits.

Nigel joined Harry W Clough & Co as an Articled Clerk in 1973.  He qualified in 1979 and was invited to become a partner in 1983.

He has two grown up children and his personal interests include supporting Burnley FC, sport and current affairs.  He currently plays competitive tennis during the summer months.

Roger Thompson

Roger heads up the audit department and is the firm’s audit compliance principal and joint staff partner.

Joining the practice in 1981 Roger was Harry Clough’s last Articled Clerk before students contracted to a firm. Qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1986 he became a Partner in 1991. Roger has plans to help grow the firm into the largest and most respected independent practice in Yorkshire.

Roger is a past President of the Bradford Society of Chartered Accountants and is currently the Treasurer and a Committee Member of the Bradford Professional Network.

Roger has two children and outside of work he is a keen golfer and fell walker. He also has been the Chairman of Harden Children's Gala Committee on four occasions.

Shafiq Khan

Shafiq is responsible for Clough’s 121 Business Centre and Clough Management Services (CMS).

Qualifying as a Chartered Certified Accountant in York in 1992, Shafiq was a prize-winning candidate at the institute. He went on achieve his Chartered Taxation Advisor qualification in 1994 and joined Clough & Company in 1995. Initially working as part of the Business Centre at the old Bradford office, he was made Partner in 2005.

Shafiq briefly relocated to the Dewsbury premises before settling into the new, purpose built offices at Cleckheaton in 2004 where he is now based. As well as his roles as a Partner, he is also on the committee for the Business Enterprise Fund and the local affairs committee at Bradford Chamber.

Outside of work, he spends time with his five children, enjoys walking, cricket and football. His profession has also stood him in good stead as a parent governor and member of the finance committee at his daughter’s school.

Lesley Kendrew

Lesley’s role as Audit Partner sees her specialising in solicitors, charities, and owner managed businesses, whilst also heading the payroll department. Additionally, Lesley is responsible for Clough's recruitment and graduate training programme, where she mentors trainees through their accounting and technical qualifications. She is a member of Forward Ladies and the ICAEW audit faculty.

Lesley qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1988 with a national firm and joined Clough & Company in 1990. She became Audit Partner in 2002.

Lesley lives in Wakefield with her two teenage children and spends her spare time by the side of swimming pools watching her daughter play water polo, by the side of football pitches watching her son play junior football and is a life-long Leeds United supporter.

Simon Wilson

Following a brief stint working abroad in the oil rig construction industry, Simon retrained and qualified as an accountant in 1989, before going on to enhance his tax advisory skills by qualifying as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 1992 .

Simon joined Clough and Company in 1993 and then worked his way through the ranks; in 2002 becoming the first non ICAEW partner appointment in Cloughs then fifty year history. An accountant and trusted business adviser, Simon splits his time between the Keighley and Cleckheaton offices and specialises in delivering proactive strategic advice to a portfolio of approximately one hundred successful owner managed businesses.

Away from work, Simon is married to Lesley with two sons and enjoys a typical ‘hectic’ modern-day family life. As a former player with Huddersfield, rugby union is a great passion and most weekends  will see him pacing the touchline ‘articulating and de-stressing’ whilst watching his sons play at some far flung Yorkshire rugby club.

Paul Captieux

Paul is the head of Clough Taxation Solutions, Clough & Company’s thriving tax practice that specialises in both tax planning advisory services and traditional tax compliance services. He is dedicated to being able to offer the widest possible range of tax planning solutions to clients in response to their needs.

Paul is a graduate of the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology (UWIST) which is now part of Cardiff University. He obtained a degree in Maritime Geography, but as a land lubber, returned to Sheffield where he qualified with Grant Thornton as a Chartered Tax Advisor in 1992.  He has since worked in Leeds for four years as a Private Client Tax Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers and eight years as a Private Client Senior Manager at KPMG. Paul left KPMG in April 2009 to head up Clough Taxation Solutions.

Paul’s passions outside Clough include Italian Football, crime novels and classical music.

Chris Wood



Chris is a licensed insolvency practitioner and leads Clough Corporate Solutions (CCS).

Chris began working within the insolvency and recovery sector in 1982. He has worked for firms of all sizes, ranging from a sole practitioner to the Big Four, which has enabled him to gain a wealth of experience helping businesses through their difficulties.

Outside of the office, anything of a sporty nature is of interest but having played football and cricket at a decent level, Chris now prefers a relatively sedate round of golf.
